The Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EMHC) is one of the most special and most important roles that needs to be filled for the celebration of each Mass. In fact, at most of our weekend Masses, these roles need to be filled by 7-8 people (3 distributing the Precious Body of Christ and 5 distributing the Precious Blood of Christ). Therefore, we need a lot of volunteers for these positions because everyone does not want to or cannot volunteer each weekend. We have a great scheduling process that allows you to sign up for what works best for you and finding a substitute is easy as well. There is also great in-person training to be an EMHC as well as a detailed handout
(Guidelines for EMHC) for reference.
Being an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion is truly special as it makes you feel so much more connected to the full experience of Mass and the magnitude of the gift of the Eucharist. It’s actually hard to put into words. You really have to experience it to fully understand how transformative it is.
In addition to your role in the Mass, you are asked to arrive 15 minutes early to greet our parishioners upon their arrival and to stay a bit afterward to help wash and dry the vessels and put them away. Both of these moments are great for getting to know your fellow EMHC volunteers.
And finally, since you will be taking an important role in the Mass, we ask that you follow our Dress Code. Please see the link below.
