One of the special things we offer at St. William’s is a nice reception in our Parish Hall after funeral services in the church. This is a great group to join knowing you are helping our parishioners, and giving them one less thing to worry about, in this very difficult time.
The funerals happen at 11am in the church, so the reception usually takes place from Noon until approximately 2pm. Besides all of the work the church staff does in terms of food and stocking the kitchen, there is still much to be done before, during, and after the reception. If you decide to join this group, please know you have the option of choosing which part(s) of the work is best for your schedule, etc.
Here are some of the jobs to be filled:
In advance of the reception, volunteer to be called for food donations (possibly desserts only) and/or donating your time to work at the event. Or volunteer to make the calls for food donations and/or the calls for help on the day of the reception.
On the day of the reception, volunteer to set up dining tables and food tables (2 people, 1-2 hours), or volunteer to keep the food table neat and stocked during the meal (1 person, 2 hours), or volunteer to do the dishes and kitchen clean-up (2-3 people, 1 hour), or volunteer to wash off the tables, roll up table clothes, put away tables/chairs and dust mop the floor of the hall (2 people, 1-2 hours).
So the full work of the day is usually from 9am to 3pm, and you can choose to be there the whole time or whatever time block/job works best for you.
There is a lot of work to make these receptions happen, but it’s work for a great cause. And the work can be shared by many due to the distinction of each job. Join our team. We really need you!
